A is for Alphabet is a set of letter designs based on words that represent each letter of the alphabet. I am interested in language, the loss of language, and symbols that we learn at a young age. I sent out a survey asking participants to note what word comes to mind when they think of each letter of the alphabet, and I used these results to create individual letterforms of the alphabet that represent these objects that are associated with them. This alphabet explores how letters, even in their simplest graphic forms, can be visually dynamic and have different layers of meaning.

The letters are meant to have both two-dimensional and three-dimensional applications. I have turned the letters into posters, a children’s book, and sculptural letter blocks.
